What's on in Lefkada this August

1. The International Folklore Festival

When: 18-25 of August

The international folklore is well known all over Greece and many of the world’s countries. During the Folklore Festival, the town’s streets are filled with dancers from countries the world over, in their national costumes, dancing and singing around the main square, waving flags and banners. The entire island is infused with the enthusiasm created by colourful national costumes, the variety of the music and the cheerfulness of dance groups from near or far. These are the days when it’s fun to be in Lefkada town, certainly on the first Sunday of the Folklore Festival.

2. Lentil Festival at Englouvi

When: 6 of August, Englouvi village (at 19.00)

Every August the famous Lentil Festival takes place at the yard of Ag. Donato church,  above the village of Englouvi. Don’t miss the excellent lentils, famous for their taste and aroma!

 3. The traditional Lefkas wedding in Karya

It is a series of preparations concerning the dowry of the bride, the house, her costume and everything needed for the mystery and revelry.

4. Life is a beach

Kastro, Gyra and Ai Giannis do not receive as much attention as the famous beaches but this is where the Lefkadians go when they want not too crowded perfect sands and clear waters. When the sun shines brightly on hot summer days in Lefkada, visit Kryoneri, at Ai Giannis, the beach has plenty natural shadow and is just 3kms from the town of Lefkada.

5.Visit the monastery of Panagia Faneromeni

Named the Kyra (Lady) of Lefkada, dedicated to the Virgin Mary who is considered the patron saint of the island, the monastery is one of Lefkada’s significant religious monimuents. The view from the monastery is magnificent. One can marvel from there the olive grove, the lagoon, the town, the Ionian Sea, the mountains of Epirus and Acarnania, Preveza as well as the Ambracian Gulf in the east are also clearly visible.

6. Pamper yourself

Your holiday in Lefkada can be the perfect opportunity to get away and concentrate on your well being: try a massage and a hammam rub, improve your overall look with a new hairstyle, pamper yourself with a refreshing fish spa session and enjoy a manicure and pedicure experience.
