Walking excursion at Lefkada, with the book "Lefkada on foot" by Lida Out.
This walk starts at the bus stop in the centre of Ag. Nikitas, beside the Join In Centre and opposite two rental offices. You see a tarmac road ascending to the left just past the bus stop and just before the turn to Kalamitsi. Turn onto this ascending road, pass the Hotel Santa Marina, and after 10 minutes you ascend to the right just past two houses.
Shortly, you see Ag. Nikitas on your right. On the mountain ridge behind Ag. Nikitas you can see the old village mill. Hidden behind this mountain ridge lies the beautiful Milos beach. With clear weather conditions you can see the islands of Anti-Paxos, Paxos and Corfu in the distance.
After 5 minutes you reach a fork in the road where you follow the tarmac main road to the right. This road takes you through a beautiful plain with old olive groves. Keep following the main road, ignoring a track to the right, until after 10 minutes you reach another fork. Turn left here; on your left hand side you see a white gate, the entrance to some holiday homes. Keep following this partly concrete track, ignore the turn to the right (to villa Thymus) which you see after about 5 minutes. After another 3 minutes ignore the track that joins from the right.
You follow the main track and after over 5 minutes from the turn to the spring and wash-place of Drymonas you turn right at the T-junction.
After 10 minutes you ignore the track to the right (direction towards the little Ag. Anna church) and you keep going on the main track keeping left. Enjoy the lovely view over Pefkoulia beach. Pefko means pine tree; you can see how the beach got its name. Another 20 minutes of descending brings you to the village of Ag. Nikitas.
Turn left here and after 5 minutes you reach the bus stop where you started the walk. You can also walk back to the bus stop through the village. Turn right onto the tarmac road and a little further you see a paved track to the left. This track will bring you to the centre of the village where you can have a swim or enjoy a meal in one of the pleasant tavernas.
